Handprint of Franz Jaffe

by Marianne Raschig

1925

Marianne Raschig was a famous palm-reader operating in Germany between the wars. She would record her subjects’ hand print in ink, and have them sign it.

She collected over 2000 hand prints during her lifetime, many belonging to famous artists, writers, actors, musicians, and scientists such as Albert Einstein, Marlene Dietrich and Louis Armstrong, as well as members of the general population, who would have their palms analysed to reveal personality traits.

This print is of the architect and art director Franz Jaffe's palm, and is signed by him. Jaffe was known for creating the Florentine architecture for the set of the 1919 horror film ‘The Plague in Florence’.

The original work is held by Drawing Matter, an organisation that explores the role of drawing in architectural thought and practice. We have collaborated with them to bring highlights from their extraordinary collection to a wider audience. Explore Drawing Matter here

Frame depths vary from 33-48mm depending on the size selected.

Our frames are fitted with an FSC timber sub-frame, providing stability and longevity to the outer frame and glass.

Your frame is designed to be hung using the split batten method (hanging guide here). This enables your frame to sit flush against the wall. If you would prefer the more traditional option of D-rings and picture wire instead, please leave a note for us at the cart when you place the order.
