by Superstudio

1969

Superstudio, a radical architecture and design practice founded in Florence in 1966, rejected consumerist-focused modernist architecture. Led by Adolfo Natalini, Cristiano Toraldo di Francia, Gian Piero Frassinelli, Alessandro Poli, and the Magris brothers, the collective proposed an anti-architecture that prioritised people's needs over capitalist gain.

As they stated, "If design is merely an inducement to consume, then we must reject design; if architecture is merely the codifying of the bourgeois model of ownership and society, then we must reject architecture; if architecture and town planning is merely the formalisation of present unjust social divisions, then we must reject town planning and its cities."

Their radical ideas are reflected in this series of drawings, which are held in the Drawing Matter collection.

The original work is held by Drawing Matter, an organisation that explores the role of drawing in architectural thought and practice. We have collaborated with them to bring highlights from their extraordinary collection to a wider audience. Explore Drawing Matter here.

Frame depths vary from 33-48mm depending on the size selected.

Our frames are fitted with an FSC timber sub-frame, providing stability and longevity to the outer frame and glass.

Your frame is designed to be hung using the split batten method (hanging guide here). This enables your frame to sit flush against the wall. If you would prefer the more traditional option of D-rings and picture wire instead, please leave a note for us at the cart when you place the order.
